Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.

Thank you for making the time to join us this evening.

Every day when I get home from work and I come through the booms, I am so thankful that I live in GSP. My children ride their bikes in the streets; my eldest daughter comes into our area to walk because she feels safe there. Often you will see couples walking late at night because it is safe to do so. We really are fortunate to have the security that we do. Unfortunately because we have had so few incidents we can become complacent with our own security. It is imperative that each resident continues to reassess their own security and make improvements where necessary. Please make sure cars are kept locked and valuables are locked in the boot. We will always have opportunists in the area and they will be quick to spot the easy target.

The past year we finally managed to upgrade our camera system at the Adela street entrance. We had obtained several quotations for the upgrade, all of which were way out of reach. Fortunately we managed to do this in house for a fraction of the cost. This has certainly made it easier to monitor vehicles coming into and leaving the area. The system can store 10 days information so if we need to review an incident we are able to do this. This upgrade can incorporate  64 cameras and as funds become available more cameras will be installed. Our priorities are Arthur Street gate, Hesteleen gate and Werd Street.

I think our biggest achievement has been able to provide affordable security and keep it affordable. In the past 9 years our fees have only increased by 59%  Think back 9 years and try and think of a single item that has only increased by 59%. There isn’t one. I really wish my lights and water bill had only increased by 59%.

Unfortunately we have reached a point where financially we only just meet our monthly commitments, causing us to draw on our reserves. You will see from the financial report that our reserves have dropped  by about R20.000.  Keep in mind that we need to keep R63000 in reserve to pay for our reapplication fee to the City of Tshwane when it is called for. If this happens we won’t have enough in reserve to pay for one month’s security.  If we are to maintain our present level of security and if we are to continue strengthening our defenses we must increase our monthly income. At this point I want to propose that from January 2012 our monthly subscription increases to R290 per month. I want to stress that we have always accommodated those of our residents who cannot afford to pay their fees in full and will continue to do so. Several pensioners only contribute R100 per month.

For R290 per month we get 24 hour security. We have our own response unit on site, we have regular patrols. I honestly feel that we get value for money.  If we lost what we have here and we all had to sign up with the local security companies we would definitely not get 24 hour security for R290 per month.

Once again I want to thank our dedicated board members who put in countless hours each month so that we can enjoy the security that we have. Without their time and effort our systems would fall apart. I would also like to thank our estate manager Polla Swartz who always goes the extra mile in making sure our admin and security is tip top. I would like to point out that we need more board members. We really need each portfolio to have a back up. So if you feel you want to be part of our operation please contact any board member or our office and we will welcome you aboard.

I would like to remind residents that there will be a spruit clean up on the 17th September at 9 o’clock and on the 18th September, at 12 o’clock, we will have our family day. Please come and join us. All you need bring is your meat, some drinks and chairs. Everything else will be provided.

I would like to end with this note. What we have in GSP is truly special. Please play your part in making GSP a success. Be vigilant yourself and take an interest in your surroundings, in your neighbours. Make what we have work. If we lose what we have now we will live with that regret for the rest of our lives.
